Hiking in the Niederrhein

The Niederrhein is a hikers’ paradise! Whether you want to spontaneously head out or prefer a certified premium route, there is something for everyone. Especially the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park, with its 25 award-winning routes, is ideal for exploring the idyllic surroundings. From cross-border premium routes to wheelchair and buggy-accessible paths—there is no lack of variety in the region.Another highlight is the Hohe Mark Steig, a 150-kilometre long-distance hiking route, named Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland (Walkable Germany Quality Trail). The first stages take you through typical Niederrhein landscapes with pollard willows, floodplains and mysterious peat areas such as the Schwarze Wasser (Black Water).
