Routes lead you through forests and meadows, past lakes and rivers, and into historic town centres, museums, markets, castles and fortresses. The cycling network stretches for more than 2,000 kilometres. There is no need for a compass or a map, as the junction system makes everything easy to follow.

23 - 34 - 45: it may sound like a set of lottery numbers, but in fact it is a clever navigation system designed for cyclists. Following the Dutch and Belgian example, you can navigate the Niederrhein by following the numbers. Forget about memorising town names or wrestling with complicated maps; just jot down a few numbers and off you go.
The entire cycling network is clearly signposted, and every junction has its own number.
Below each sign you will find the direction and number of the nearest junctions, so all you need to remember are the numbers of your planned route. A small note is enough, or you can just write them on your hand. In Germany, you can recognise the cycling signs by their red-and-white arrows, tables and intermediate markers.
